About The Artist
Welcome to The Lopers Sketches!
My name is Anna, and I have been sketching for as long as I can remember. I was raised in the New England region of NSW and now call Queensland home. I have always been passionate about horses, the outdoors, and the Australian agricultural industry.
Much of my artwork is inspired by the Australian Performance Horse Industry. There is something incredibly special about watching a horse and rider work together as one — whether they are completing a precise pattern, working cattle, or showcasing the incredible partnership that can develop between horse and rider.
My love for horses and cattle extends well beyond the sketchbook. I have worked in feedlots, meatworks and sale yards, as well as contract mustering. I also had the opportunity to work for six months with a well-known cutting trainer. In the cutting world, a strapper or groom is often referred to as a “loper” — and this is where the name The Lopers Sketches comes from.
My art journey began simply, with endless scribbling in books and plenty of doodling. I have no formal art training and have taught myself most of what I know through practice, persistence and a genuine love for creating. Over the years, my artwork has developed into something I could only have dreamed of when I first started.
I am continually learning and looking forward to expanding my knowledge, refining my skills and pushing my artwork further. My goal is to achieve hyper realism, capturing the character, movement and spirit of the animals and the people who work alongside them.
Thank you for visiting The Lopers Sketches. I hope you enjoy exploring my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.
